A place to feel good

Massage Therapy for migraine, chronic pain,
wellness, and relaxation
Since 1997
Massage Techniques:
Here is some information about the various techniques
available to you for your massage sessions. You may request
your favorite, or massage therapy techniques may be combined
seamlessly to address your needs. Pricing is by length of
massage therapy session and remains the same regardless of
technique combination.  Based on what you tell me, I will
always assess your situation and make suggestions for making
your massage session the most beneficial, but feel free to let
me know what you would like to try. It's your massage!
A place to feel better

          Wellness Massage:
    Also known as relaxation massage
             or Swedish massage

Shiatsu: A Japanese method of applying massage pressure to the body's energy
meridians with the hands, and to specific points along those meridians with the
fingers. This method can be applied to many situations, from general to specific. An
overall Shiatsu massage feels wonderful for stress relief, to help re-energize a tired
body, or for relaxation. Shiatsu can also address a wide range of specifics by
focusing on particular meridians and points. A Shiatsu-only massage session feels
very comforting and can be done fully clothed, making this a good option for those
who prefer to remain clothed during their massage. Shiatsu meridians and points
are addressed as part of a "regular" massage session.

                          Prenatal massage
A great way to take care of yourself and your baby

Esalen-based Massage: The Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California has been
the center of the human potential movement for over 40 years. One of the areas that
its early members explored was living fully in the body, and out of that exploration
arose a characteristic approach to massage and bodywork that remains influential
today. The Esalen approach started with the mechanics of Swedish massage and
added the sensory awareness practice of Charlotte Selver, and the idea that all
people can and deserve to feel good in our bodies. Today, massage methods
inspired by this original approach are taught and practiced all over the world.
Although this massage approach tends to have some classic commonalities among
its devotees --  very long flowing strokes, a slow pace, gentle passive stretches, and
awareness of the breath -- it is highly adaptable to the individual massage therapist
and client and allows the two to communicate and be flexible.  The Esalen principles
of communication, personalization, and being aware of one's senses are
incorporated into every type of Solar Powered Massage session, but I also offer full
one-hour and ninety-minute sessions of specifically Esalen-based technique for
relaxation. Pricing remains the same as for all other massage techniques. (A quick
note on draping: I do use standard sheet/light blanket draping for Esalen-based
massage just as for Swedish massage, rather than the minimal towel draping some
    may be familiar with.)

Chair Massage: That funny-looking contraption you see in airports and at the
Farmer's Market.  This very comfortable thing hardly looks like a chair, but is so
supportive and relaxing that just about everybody who steps into it sighs and says, "I
could just go to sleep in this right here!"  The massage chair can travel to your
workplace or special event where people can receive shorter clothed sessions,
great for a pick-me-up in the middle of the workday or at events such as benefits,
races, or conventions. The massage therapy chair is also a good option when lying
down causes pain or discomfort -- the session is simply done clothed in the
massage chair, using compression, Shiatsu, and modified Swedish massage
techniques. You have the choice of chair or table work in the Solar Powered
    Massage office, at identical rates.
